Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General

The Awardco platform helps to facilitate RPI’s new employee rewards and recognition program, RPI Recognize! We’re excited to make appreciation easy, timely, and aligned with RPI’s eight core values.  This platform will help to facilitate celebration of milestone service recognition with point-based rewards, peer-to-peer appreciation, and four new annual staff awards debuting in fall 2026.

The following recognition programs are facilitated through the Awardco platform:

  • Non-monetary (no points):
    • Peer-to-peer: Faculty and staff can give recognition to colleague or group at anytime.
    • New Hires: New employees will receive a welcome message on the platform feed!
  • Monetary:
    • Years of Service: RPI has set aside funds for employee years of service recognition and points are awarded based on the milestone anniversary. Employees will receive redeemable points for Key Milestone Service Anniversaries (see, “Redeemable points” for additional information).
    • Birthdays: Every employee will receive a birthday wish and an all you can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner at any Residential Dining Location across campus.
    • Coming in Fall 2026: Annual Staff Awards – staff can be nominated for a series of 4 annual staff awards. The selected staff members will receive a monetary award.

Eligibility

All part-time and full-time employees are eligible to give and receive peer-to-peer recognition. You can recognize your peers, your direct reports, your manager, and even your leadership.

No, the Awardco platform is for internal employee recognition only.

Full-time faculty and staff are eligible to accumulate years of service. Service anniversaries are based on the employees hire date.  If an employee is rehired within 12 months of voluntary separation, their adjusted hire date will be used for years of service calculation.  If an employee returns after a break in service of more than 12 months their years of service calculation will be based on the date they return to RPI.

If you think there is a discrepancy with your hire date, please contact rpirecognize@rpi.edu.

How to Recognize

Visit the Awardco platform at rpi.awardco.com. Click on the “Recognize” tab at the top of the page, or you can simply start typing a name in the box in the middle of the page that says, “Who do you want to Recognize?”

  • Type the name(s) of the person/people, or type the Department or Portfolio name for group recognitions.
  • Select the recipient(s) and click “next”.
  • Choose whether the recognition will be displayed to everyone on the public social feed or shown only privately to you and the recipient.
  • Enter the recognition message.
  • Select one or more of the RPI Core Values that best align with the recognition.
  • Confirm the recognition details and click “Submit”.
  • The recipient will receive an email notification alerting them of the recognition.

If you accidentally recognize the wrong person, you are able to delete the recognition by clicking on the three dots to the very right of the post in Awardco. Then, you would just submit it again to the correct person. To easily find the recognition, you can go to the “I’ve Given” filter on the Feed.

Yes, there are a few ways to recognize a group of individuals:

  1. You can add multiple names to a single recognition by individually typing each person’s name into the “Who do you want to recognize?” window. Select “Next” to complete the recognition process.
  2. You can type the name of a Portfolio or Department in the “Who do you want to recognize?” window.  Select “Next” to complete the recognition process.
  3. If you would like to add a large list, you can upload a .csv file by clicking the “Recognize” tab in the top right corner of the platform. From the “Who do you want to recognize?” screen, select the “Recognize a Group” option underneath the search bar, and then “Upload a list of names.” The bulk upload feature will accept a .csv file with a single column of user IDs or emails without headers. The maximum number of users you can include is 2000. When successfully uploaded, the names will populate in the recognition window. Select “Next” to complete the recognition process.

Visibility of Recognition and Privacy

Recognitions will be displayed on the Awardco platform “Feed”, unless the sender selects the private option or if you, as a receiver, have selected “receive only private recognitions” in your profile.”

Email notifications will also be sent to the receiver and their manager.

Yes, there are a few ways to do this:

  • To make an individual recognition you receive private go to the specific recognition on the platform. Click the three vertical dots on the top right side of the post.  Select “Set Recognition to Private.”

  • To make all recognitions you receive private click on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the homepage and select “My Profile.” From there, select the “Settings” tab. Under the “Privacy” section you can toggle to set the recognitions you receive to Public or Private. By setting this feature to private, all future recognitions received will be marked as private and will not post to a public feed. Others will not be able to comment, react, or be notified when you are recognized.

Note: Your manager will always be notified when you are recognized and will be able to pull a report with all recognitions you have received, even if they are marked private.

Yes, to make only birthday recognitions private click on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the homepage and select “My Profile.” From there, select the “Settings” tab. Under the “Privacy” section you can toggle to “Exclude me from birthday celebrations.”

Yes. If you opt out of the entire program you will be completely removed from the system and will not be able to receive any recognition or associated redeemable points. To do this please contact rpirecognize@rpi.edu.

It is possible that the person you are looking for has opted out of the RPI Recognize Program and Awardco Platform.

Yes, when you create a recognition, you can select whether or not it shows up in the public social feed. If you select “Everyone” it will show up in the Feed for anyone to see and interact with. If you select “Private” it will not show up in the public social feed.

Note: The recipient’s manager always receives an email notification of the recognition, and all recognitions will be visible in reporting, even if they are marked private.

The employee’s manager has the option to receive an email notification when a direct report is recognized, unless they have changed their default settings to opt out of these notifications.

From the “Feed” tab, on the left side of the page select “Filter by” then select “Recognition.” From there you can filter by “Given” or “Received”.

Managers can also filter to view the recognitions given and received by their direct reports by selecting “Filter by” and then “Direct Reports.”

Not at this time. However, Managers are able to pull reports of their direct reports’ recognitions. If an employee would like to highlight a special recognition during their performance review, they can find all recognitions given by going to the Feed and selecting the “I’ve Received” filter.

Social Feed

Visit the “Feed” tab and use the filters to narrow down the recognitions you want to see. You can search by a specific person’s name, and you can also create a saved filter with a group of names.

On each recognition tile, you are able to leave reactions and comments.

On the left side of the main page, click “Recognition” and then “Feed” from the drop-down menu.  Here you are able to filter your recognition “Feed”. On the left side of the Feed page, you will see default filters: “All”, “Given”, “Received”, “Peers” and “My Circle.” (Managers also see “Direct Reports.”)

To create and save custom filters, select the “Filter By” drop-down to begin. Multiple choices can be selected in a field and multiple fields can be selected at a time. Save this view by clicking “Save new view” below the drop-down menu and name it. Click the “...” next to each saved view to rename the view, set that view as the default view, or delete the view.

Redeemable Points

Points are awarded for key years of service milestone anniversaries and are automatically populated in your account by RPI at these milestones.

This is the only way to receive points at this time.

  • 1 year - 35 points (redeemable for RPI swag only)
  • 3 years - 50 points
  • 5 years - 75 points
  • 10 years - 100 points
  • 15 years - 150 points
  • 20 years - 200 points
  • 25 years - 250 points
  • 30 years - 250 points
  • 35 years - 250 points
  • 40 years - 300 points
  • 45 years - 300 points
  • 50 years - 500 points

When an employee has a key years of service milestone anniversary, points are automatically populated in their account.   When an employee receives points, they can be accumulated and/or redeemed in the Awardco Marketplace for a variety of reward options including items from Amazon, RPI swag, e-gift cards, hotels and more!

When employees earn points, they may use them immediately in the Awardco Marketplace or save them for future use. Points do not expire; however, they must be redeemed before an employee retires or leaves RPI, at which point the account will be closed.

Employees can purchase additional points by adding funds at checkout for a specific reward:

  • Start Checkout: Add your desired reward (e.g., from Amazon, Swag Store, etc.) to your cart.
  • See Shortfall: If you don't have enough points, you'll see a message: "You don't have enough Points to cover this order".
  • Proceed to Pay: Select "Checkout" and then "Pay Remaining Balance".
  • Enter Payment: The system will show the points you have, the points needed, and the remaining amount to pay with your personal credit/debit card.
  • Confirm: Complete the payment process to add the needed points and finalize your order.

No. Points cannot be donated to another employee at this time.

Once an employee leaves RPI, the account is closed, and any remaining eligible points are forfeited.  Employees leaving RPI or retiring are strongly encouraged to spend points prior to separation.

Payroll Reporting & Taxes

Earnings under this program will be reported in accordance with Federal IRS regulations. Redemption of points may be taxable depending on the reason points were awarded and how points are redeemed. Any redemption of points for gift cards, experiences, or hotel stays will always be considered taxable income.  Years of service recognition points will not be taxable if redeemed for tangible goods (assuming points issued for the milestone anniversary were less than $400), but if these years of service points are redeemed for gift cards, experiences or hotel stays they will be taxable income.

Redemption of Points

Click on the “Marketplace” tab on the left-hand side of the platform. Select “Spend Points” to see a listing of the available award options. Select the item you wish to purchase and add it to your cart to continue the check out process.

Items include things like: Amazon products, gift cards, travel experiences and RPI swag.

To better ensure the quality of product you receive, and to ensure the item you receive is covered by Amazon's 30-day return policy, only items directly warehoused and fulfilled by Amazon are eligible for redemption in the Awardco platform. While this means items sold in the Amazon Marketplace by third-party sellers are not available for redemption, it does provide better protection for you as you spend your points on the Awardco platform.

For detailed instructions on how to track your order, click HERE.

To initiate a return or order cancellation you will need to send in a support ticket to our support team. This allows our team to contact Amazon on your behalf.

In your support ticket, you include:

  • Your name, as it appears in your account, and the name of your organization
  • When you placed your order
  • The exact item(s) you need to cancel/return
  • The reason you need to cancel/return the item(s)
E.g. the item was damaged, not what you expected, wrong size, etc.
  • State if you want to return the item(s) for a refund.

If Amazon approves the return, you will likely be required to return the item to an Amazon warehouse. If Amazon requires the return of the original item, the Awardco support team will send you a return label via email. Use the return label to ship the item back to Amazon. Once Amazon receives the returned item, your point refund will be sent to you. If you have not received your point refund within seven business days after the day you send the item back to Amazon, please reach out to our support team again.

Years of Service Anniversaries

You will receive a celebratory email message and an announcement will be made in the Awardco feed unless you have selected “Receive only private recognitions” in the settings section of your Awardco profile.

Employees celebrating Key Milestone Anniversaries (1st, 3rd, 5th, and every 5 years thereafter) will receive spendable points (see the “About Points” section).  Additionally, employees celebrating their 10th, 25th or 40th service anniversary will also receive a personalized plaque shipped directly to their home address on file.  To view your current home address on file, go to RPI Employee Self Service Account - Profile.

On the homepage under the “Upcoming Milestones” feed, you will be able to see all upcoming anniversaries.

Birthdays

All employees are invited to enjoy an all you can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner during their birthday month at any Residential Dining Location across campus.  To redeem, employees simply swipe their RPI ID at the cashier station. Also, on the day of the birthday, employees receive an email notification, and the birthday is posted on the campus feed unless the employee has opted to be excluded from birthday recognitions.

To opt out of birthday recognitions click on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the homepage and select “My Profile.” From there, select the “Settings” tab. Under the “Privacy” section you can toggle to “Exclude me from birthday celebrations.”
