The Department of Environmental Health and Safety provides class room, web-based, and field exercise safety training to faculty, staff and students working, studying or performing research at the University.
For staff, safety training requirements are listed in each individual’s Performance Management tool (PMT). For faculty, training requirements are provided in their individual on-line web based training account. Student training is activity dependent, and it is expected that the student’s instructor or principal investigator will determine the appropriate training and ensure it is completed by the student.
The principal means of providing training is through Traincaster, Rensselaer’s On-line Learning Management System. Traincaster is designed as a tool for employees and managers to aid in the performance management and regulatory compliance processes.
Accessing Your TrainCaster Account
All Rensselaer employees may access their individual Traincaster account on-line.
If you are logging onto Traincaster for the first time, your Rensselaer Identification Number, or RIN, serves as both your log in name and password. After you have successfully logged in, you can change your log-in name and password.
For non-staff or faculty members such as students, you will need to obtain a log-in name and password from the Training Specialist on the EH&S staff.
Training is also offered in the class room or as a field exercise for specialty areas such as excavation safety. The schedule for these class offerings can be viewed either on the campus calendar or the HR Calendar.
