Employees scheduled to work at least 30 hours or more per week for 52 weeks, or at least 40 hours per week for 26 weeks, may enroll within 30 days of hire in one of the medical plans that Rensselaer offers. Coverage is effective the first of the month following date of hire.

Otherwise, enrollment may take place during the open enrollment period to be effective January 1 of the next year or within 30 days of a family status change.

There are two health care plans: The Rensselaer Health Plan (RHP) and the Rensselaer HMO Plan.

Rensselaer pays 75-77% of the total cost for full-time employees for either individual, two-person, or family coverage. Employee contributions are on a pretax basis if Rensselaer contributes to the cost of health coverage.
