Your Computing (RCS) Account

Thanks to the joint efforts of the Division of the CIO (DotCIO) and the Division of Human Resources, new Rensselaer employees can now use the on-line pickup program to obtain their user IDs for the Rensselaer Computing System (RCS). These user IDs provide access to a host of important RCS services, including electronic mail, printing, protected Web pages, personal on-line information, WebCT, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), remote access, the use of the RCS UNIX-based workstations, downloadable software, and the EZ-Snapshot file backup service.

You will need:

New employees will need to supply their 16-digit Registration Pin (RP) number and either their Social Security number or date of birth in order to access the on-line user ID pickup program. The RP number will be activated by Human Resources upon completion of all new hire paperwork, including the Employment Transaction Form, which is initiated by the hiring department, and the I-9 form, which is completed by the new employee. (Employees who contact the VCC Help Desk can obtain their RCS user IDs directly, without the RP number.)

Once you obtain your RCS user ID, you should change your password. You can even change your password on-line.

You should also remember to change your password roughly every year or so, since a number of new services will only be available to you once you have changed your password.

In closing, please remember that whether you're a new employee or have worked here at Rensselaer for years, you should always feel free to contact the Help Desk, located on the main floor of the Voorhees Computing Center, if you ever need assistance with your account. In addition to the webpages they've assembled to answer your account-related questions, the staff will be happy to personally assist you; you can either stop by in person or phone (518) 276-7777. If you do stop by to get a new password, please be sure to bring valid picture identification with you.
