RPI's Total Compensation Program is designed to provide Rensselaer faculty, staff, and retirees with stable pay growth, financial health, protection and security, from their time of hire to their retirement. It encompasses both monetary compensation and benefits, offering a holistic view of an employee's overall earnings.
RPI’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively within a defined labor market and to provide comprehensive pay and benefit programs to recruit, reward, and retain a diverse and productive workforce. In doing so, RPI can provide fair and consistent pay practices to its employees in a fiscally responsible manner.

Division of HR FY26 Key Initiative
Assess Institute-wide Total Compensation (Pay and Benefits)
An external consultant will be engaged in FY26 to conduct a comprehensive study of pay and benefits at RPI, to include external peer benchmarking, base pay structures, and pay equity analysis. The study may result in an update of the current Institute-wide total compensation philosophy utilizing benchmarks to peer institutions.
Updates will be provided to campus throughout the process.
