RPI MAX is a collaborative staff performance process focused on continuous growth and development. It emphasizes clear performance expectations, regular feedback, and intentional goal setting. By aligning individual performance with organizational values and objectives, it fosters accountability, recognizes achievements, and identifies opportunities for improvement, driving both personal and institutional success.
Three-Phased Approach

RPI MAX is anchored in the growth mindset theory and structured around three key phases:
- Planning
- Check-Ins
- Annual Evaluation
This framework shifts the focus from reflecting on the past to driving future growth and development.
(1) Planning Process
The planning process is meant to be a collaborative discussion between managers and employees to review expectations as they relate to job duties and competencies and to set mission aligned goals for the review period.
(2) Check-ins
Check-ins are structured conversations between managers and employees to provide feedback related to job duties and competencies, and address any obstacles related to goals and expectations. This approach incorporates three (3) check-ins throughout the year.
(3) Annual Evaluation
The annual evaluation summarizes the employee's performance based on job duties, competencies and progress towards goals for an overall performance rating for the review period.
A collaborative conversation is held between managers and employees to review the employee's overall performance for the review period. This is a time to celebrate successes and chart a path forward.
